In our grade 7 curriculum, we explore the world’s major waterways and their significant role in our planet’s physical geography.
Our primary objective is to introduce students to the three major waterways that shape our world: the Amazon River in South America, the Nile River in Africa, and the Mississippi-Missouri River System in North America. By studying these waterways, students gain insight into how they have influenced human history, ecosystems, and climate patterns.
We also focus on the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes in North America. These interconnected water bodies serve as essential trade routes, supporting economic prosperity in the United States and Canada. Students learn about their environmental importance, including their influence on weather patterns and freshwater resources.
Our broader curriculum aims to expose students to the challenges and opportunities presented by the physical environment. By teaching concepts like climate, landforms, and water systems, we help students connect these elements to the waterways that shape our world.
Over two days, students engage in mapping the world’s waterways, enhancing their geographic skills and understanding of our planet’s intricate water systems. This hands-on activity fosters a deeper appreciation for the vital role that waterways play in our lives.
